Traction Elevator Modernization

MEI was selected to modernize two traction cars at Porter Apartments as part of a 9.3 million dollar building overhaul. The modernization included full machine replacement, new non-proprietary elevator controls, elevator fixtures, door operation equipment, and updated cab interiors. During the project, the local MEI team stayed in constant communication with both the General Contractor and other trades working onsite to ensure vital access to vertical transportation remained available during all phases of the project. Porter Apartments now enjoys the advantage of having a modern, non-proprietary elevator system.

The MEI team that worked on this project include Superintendent Ryan Rachel, Mechanic Jerry Mahar, and Mechanic Mikey Holbrook.

Water Damage Causes Elevator Shut Down

The Maple Office building in Troy, MI is a two-story, 21,000 square foot building that leases office space to multiple businesses. When their machine room experienced water damage, the elevator was no longer in service.

MEI quickly went out, surveyed the job and realized many components needed to be replaced in order to get the elevator back in working condition. After getting the approval to proceed with the recommended upgrades, MEI got parts ordered and started the job as soon as they were able.

In the machine room, the controller was replaced with a Vertitron controller and solid-state starter. MEI also replaced wiring and installed a new submersible power unit. MEI replaced and installed a GAL door operator, hall stations, door gibs, fire tabs and Innovation fixtures. In the hoistway, the cartop station was replaced along with limit switches, pit ladder and wiring to accommodate the new system.

After the modernization was complete, the 2,000 lb. passenger elevator was back up and running. This project met all customer expectations when it came to getting the project completed on time.

The MEI team that worked on this project include Account Manager Jerry Solomon, Mechanic Todd Parker and Apprentice Joe Meier.

Awhile back when the power went out due to storm damage, my in home elevator was effected which helps me transport my special needs daughter from floor to floor. I contacted MEI and they sent a technician out to assess the problem, he was very professional and located the issue and gave me options to fix the problem.
